This policy is an attempt to defend their state borders (and our country's borders!) from the drug wars taking place, among other things. Quite amazing that Governor Brewer is finally hearing from the federal government, even though her requests for the assistance of the National Guard, apparently fell on deaf ears. But wait -- There's more!!

The United Nations has also stepped in - saying Arizona's new immigration policy is violating international law. It creeps me out that the U.N. can even have a voice to weigh in on this!! According the ACLJ1, absolutely NO provision of the Constitution is being violated by Arizona's immigration policy.

From the UN website: “A disturbing pattern of legislative activity hostile to ethnic minorities and immigrants has been established with the adoption of an immigration law that may allow for police action targeting individuals on the basis of their perceived ethnic origin,” independent U. N. experts warned.

Their propensity to interject their two cents into a State Law comes from an international human rights treaty the United States has signed.

“The law may lead to detaining and subjecting to interrogation persons primarily on the basis of their perceived ethnic characteristics,” the UN experts stressed.2

Regardless of 'perceived' ideologies of the government or UN, the Arizona Immigration Bill seeks to establish that the Law is the Law and it needs to be enforced. Simple as that! If you are here legally, not a problem. You are living and working within a system that can benefit immigrant individuals and families as it did for many of our own ancestors who immigrated here from far off countries or by passing through Ellis Island. It was done legally.

According to the goals outlined by the Department of Homeland Security, Border Patrol, including the Southwest Secure Border Fence is to:

Deter and prevent illegal entry on our Southwest Border, including pedestrian and vehicle fencing, roads, and technology.

Gain effective control of our nation’s borders as a critical element of national security.

Establish a substantial probability of apprehending terrorists seeking entry into the United States

Disrupting and restricting the smuggling of narcotics and humans

Preventing violence against border residents and illegal immigrants

Promoting better environmental health along the Southwest Border

Restricting potentially harmful diseases (both human and agricultural) from crossing the border.3

Why wouldn't our country want to protect its borders and people more? Is it because they perceive it's not politically correct to question someone who might possibly be illegal or even a terrorist?

The new Bill, S.B.1070 is designed to protect American citizens and be an extension of our own Federal laws! Arizona has had it. I wouldn't be surprised if Texas also enacts a similar bill for their State. The ruthless violent outbreak in Ciudad Juarez, located just south of El Paso, Texas has escalated to unprecedented proportions, including the killing of 13 high school and college students in January. More than 900 people have been killed in Juarez this year in drug-related violence, and more than 5,000 have died there since the cartels and the Mexican army began fighting in 2008.

A haunting example, from a recent Washington Post article dated May 13.

"Rafael Morales had been married about five minutes when, in the middle of his wedding, gunmen stormed into the Lord of Mercy Catholic Church in Ciudad Juarez on Friday and kidnapped him, his brother and uncle. They shot another man outside.
As the bride and guests were ordered to the floor, weeping in terror, the others were whisked away.

On Monday, the bodies of the 29-year-old groom, his brother and uncle were found in Juarez alongside that of an unidentified fourth man in the bed of a stolen Toyota pickup truck with Texas plates. The corpses revealed signs of torture.

On Wednesday, Mexican state police identified the three dead as U.S. citizens from La Mesa, N.M., just 20 minutes north of El Paso by the interstate."4

</sup>

And its moving closer to home, like the story of the slaying of Robert Krentz, 58, a prominent cattleman who was gunned down the morning of March 27 on his ranch northeast of Douglas, Arizona. Sheriff's officials said Krentz was shot while sitting in his all-terrain vehicle shortly after he contacted his brother by radio about discovering suspected illegal immigrants on rangeland alongside the Chiricahua Mountains.

Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard said, "I hope this is a wake-up call to people in the United States that there are very sophisticated cartel operations going on in both this country and in Mexico.".5

On April 10, 2010, Attorney General Goddard wrote a compelling letter to President Obama. Click HERE to read it. He urges:

In the last three years alone there have been over 18,000 murders in Mexico by the cartel. He states, "Because cartel violence knows no boundaries, without a comprehensive plan to shut them down, Arizonians and other Americans on the border (including Arizona, Texas, New Mexico) will never experience the border security we deserve."6

So Arizona came up with a compehensive plan. We recognize that although Border Patrol and the fine men and women in law enforcement have been working tirelessly to protect its borders and citizens we are quickly spiraling into a vortex of unprecedented dangers. Its' at our doorsteps and enacting the new bill may be only way to ensure our safety. Even if it makes a few people uncomfortable because they are asked to show their ID. There's too much at stake here.

I can't help but wonder if the naysayers, and hollywood soapboxers would feel the same way about the immigration bill if one of their loved ones fell prey to the senseless cartel violence...

_______________
Source:
1 ACLJ.org
2 United Nations website.
3 Dept. of Homeland Security website
4 Ciudad Juarez Violence
5 AZCentral Article
6 Letter to President Obama on Border Security

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://concernedcitizenswatch.blogspot.com/2010/05/should-un-dictate-our-state-laws.html' title='Should The U.N. She has decided to instruct cardinals and archbishops on just what to say from the pulpit on the topic of immigration Yes...you read that right...

On May 6th, before a Catholic forum, co-sponsored by Trinity Washington University and the National Catholic Reporter, Pelosi manages to further blur the line between the forever hailed and faulty premise of "Separation of Church and State."

With all due respect Mrs Speaker, video clips like these definitely prove that you are a loose cannon that does not have the peoples' interest at heart. Move over, because things are about to change come November... What does the Hate Crime Bill have to do with national security?

The former Bill (H.R. 1915) couldn’t be passed on its’ own merits and had been rejected numerous times, so they’ve opted to go a different underhanded route…

Quietly, while all focus is centered on the hearings for the Supreme Court nominee Judge Sotomayor, the Federal Hate Crime Bill is truly at the door.

For some time now we’ve been hearing about H.R. 1915. After countless misfirings, it is now crawling in on its belly as an Amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act. (S. 1390)

We can all agree, undoubtedly, that a crime committed against another human being is wrong. That’s why we have local and federal laws in place and the court system to prosecute the perpetrators of such crime.

It Is Appalling
If you’ve ever read the story of Matthew Shepard, (whom the Bill is named after), it is absolutely heartbreaking. The poor man was robbed, beaten, tied to a fence and left for dead. He subsequently died of his injuries. It was a crime committed against a human being. The courts prosecuted his attackers and they are now facing life in prison.

My opposition to the Hate Crime Bill has nothing to do with my response to what happened to this poor gentleman, or any other victims of crime. What I do oppose is that my personal convictions may soon be governed and prosecuted by the future “Thought Police”… um I mean Department of Justice. Yeah, believe it.

What this Amendment means…

The Matthew Shepard Act gives the Justice Department the power to investigate and prosecute bias-motivated violence. It will protect people based on actual or perceived race, color, religion, nation origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability.”

ACTIONS THIS WEEK

Yesterday: (7/14/09) an Amendment to S. 1390, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2010 was issued for the Hate Crimes Prevention Act– Click here to read full report

Today: (7/15/09) on C-Span, Sen. John McCain argued with the Senate Majority Leader Dick Durbin that this Amendment should not be attached to a much-needed Bill, our National Defense. McCain heartily proposed that it should be handled in the normal course of Senate business – a free-standing piece of legislation (instead of sneaking it in as an DOD Amendment).

Durbin argued that this is the only path they can use to make this Bill pass. He’s pushing it for a vote for the Amendment on Thursday, July 16, 2009. (Watched it with my own eyes and heard it with my own ears).

Senator Durbin also issued ‘assurances’ that religious groups would not be affected. Only those who commit violent acts of hate. That’s as believable as a Senate Bill being sent through its’ normal course on the Floor. (Let’s see, who has the highest bid or best offer for amending the Amendment?) Anyone? Bueller? Anyone? Lobbyists? Maybe they need to assign another czar on this issue.

(As of 12:00 pm CT)

Tomorrow: Thursday, (7/16/09) – Backhanded Hate Crime Prevention to go to the Floor for a vote, hidden in the rhetoric of the National Defense Authorization Act.

Will this result in Reverse-Discrimination & Hatred?

From my perspective, I often feel discriminated against because of my “religious beliefs.” Much like Miss California who, when asked a question, answered from her heart. Will I be arrested if faced with a similar situation? Will my pastor, or every radio station that broadcasts a message on a certain section of scripture give the Justice Department or local government the right to arrest us? This IS serious stuff!

Interest groups are rallying and flooding the Senate hotlines in support of this sneaky Amendment. It’s clear that the lobbyists are winning in Washington. Will we remain silent?

I thought we were promised a more transparent government!? That our voices would be heard! Well, if you ask me – you can see right through this government and where its’ headed. Lord help us!

WHAT CAN YOU DO? Act today! This effects tomorrow!!

Action 1: Tell your friends and family
Action 2: Call Reid & your senators
Action 3: Fax Senator Reid’s & your senators
Action 4: Email all of them using the forms below

Sen. We do not need the Department of Justice to oversee or intervene.

Finally, The Hate Crimes Bill is highly controversial and needs more time for scrutiny and consideration as a standalone bill, and not passed as an Amendment to unrelated legislation, as important as National Defense. It is a disgrace to imply that U.S. citizens are ignorant of the process by which this type of law must follow in the Senate.

Our legislators have been placed in office and vowed to work by the people, and for the people - so help you God. Thank you for your time.”

Please do your part! Better yet, let's bottle up some of the gases from some of the windbags in Washington?...

Not only is this outrageous, but will subsequently have a huge impact on milk cost and production, and according to some economists, could easily push up the cost of milk to approximately $6.79 per gallon. This is not to mention the impact it would have on the cost of beef.

These are only a few of the concerns I have about this Bill. I'm sorry, I don't have time to sift through the overindulgent 1400 pages. But these two issues are enough for me to want to stop and do something...

Should we turn a blind eye on this, or take a few minutes to act? Here's what you can do:

Please, Contact your Senator today!

Senator Dick Durbin: Via Contact Form or via telephone (202) 224-2152

Senator Roland Burris: Via Contact Form or via telephone (202) 224-2854

*Illinois and other fossil-fuel burning states will be affected the most.

I’m also including here a letter I wrote to my senators: Feel free to cut and paste it. The American Clean Energy & Security Act has not had the proper time for study and review, and we feel it is discriminatory especially for your constituents in Illinois, and the other Midwestern states. We will be the most effected by the passing of this bill. With the current economy, it can be difficult enough to keep food on the table, much less easily heat or cool or homes with the current energy pricing. Please consider the long-term effects of passing H.R. 2998 as is, and its’ impact on your constituents.

Please acknowledge receipt of this email via U.S. Mail. So in my opinion, the answer is yes…

We like to believe that we’re passionate about what we believe in. Right? Well, equally as passionate are those on the opposite side of many of the moral values and issues we stand for. Research is showing that it’s only the voices that are heard that get results. Sure, you can easily disregard this email as ‘just another issue’. We can just quickly delete it so we don’t have to do anything about it, or, if you know this author (me) you’ll trust my heart is aligned with yours and the God we serve together in the Body and DO something about what you’ll read below.

As stated in columns past, I’m not an activist, into politics or an alarm sounder. To the contrary, I try to live peaceably with all men, until it directly affects my future, the future of my child, and subsequently this country. So in short term, Lord willing, by writing these articles I can bring attention to those things that we care about and can act upon – to hopefully shine His Light on this earth a little longer.

**************************

So here’s something I found out (and unfortunately the news stations don’t seem to be mentioning). I won’t post exactly how I found out, no worries – the information is researched and validated – but if you email me, I’ll be happy to tell you the measure I took.

Sneaky… trying to pass the HB2234 - Illinois Religious Freedom Act and Civil Unions Act oddly enough under the umbrella of the Youth and Family Committee. Folks, the Bill Hearing is going up for vote Thursday, March 5, 2009 in Springfield. We have to act fast on this and oppose its’ passing on to the higher courts.

The civil union bill provides same-sex couples recognition and protections under Illinois law.

If this bill passes the committee it then moves on to the House for a vote. It’s become quite clear that there’s quite a liberal mix in Springfield.

Here is a list of those going to vote on it:

Call TODAY and vote against HB2234
Chairperson:
Greg Harris (D)
Springfield: (217) 782-3835
Local Office: (773) 348-3434

Vice-Chairperson :
LaShawn K. We respect this man for telling it like it is...

2/7/09

Dear Larry,

My family and I live in Cook County (Crook County as many call it), Illinois.

We moved here back in 1984 and our real estate taxes were at $1,200 per year. That was manageable. Over the course of the past 25 years we've seen home prices rise and fall, and our real estate taxes gradually climb.

As you know, Cook County and/or Illinois tends to be in the news quite often due to the corruption that we've seen. As gas prices rose last year, ours remained the highest in the country. As far as sales tax goes -- ours is the highest in the country at 10.25%.

We're dealing with corruption in the Governors Mansion and Cook County Board President Todd Stroger along with his close friend Mayor Daley has systematically oppressed us with more taxes. This state and county claim they are nearly bankrupt, need $$ from the stimulus plan and yet desire to tax us more.

Tony Peraica, a Cook County Board Commissioner has fought for the citizens of this County. But much of the time his hands are tied.. He wrote on his blog:

"Todd Stroger, John Daley and their acolytes on the County Board are delivering their annual winter budget ultimatum: Either raise taxes or face Armageddon.

Last year, they accomplished a trifecta: growing the bloated county budget, rewarding political insiders and raising taxes. This year, they’ve proposed the same (although they’re trying to hide their tax increase in the form of a $740 million bond — new debt paid for by county taxpayers in an economic crisis)."

This also happens at the same time that Stroger hires family members and pays exhorbitant salaries, as he describes "he needs someone who has his back."

Back in March of 2008 Donna Dunnings (Stroger's Cousin) received a 12% raise ($17K). Her current salary as CFO is $160,000 (which is 2/3 higher than the National Average)
Mike Flanery, Truth in Politics, CBS2chicago.com video

John Tillman, chairman and CEO of the Illinois Policy Institute, added:
Cook County government has been on a relentless mission to continually raise taxes. People have been abandoning Cook County for decades due to its high taxes and reputation for corruption and bloated payrolls. Transparency is a first step toward reform. It is the x-ray machine that will allow the citizens of Cook County to see every check written, for how much and to whom. More is needed, but this is an excellent first step.

So here we are, a family of three, my husband who is disabled from work injuries, me with my own business that is only breaking even and a college age son.

How is the stimulus package going to help us? Is it going to pay our tripled utilities bills? Our 45% increased tax bill which is now virtually a mortgage payment in itself?

We've always paid our bills. We have no credit card debt. But if something isn't done we also won't have money for food.

Larry, tell us - what are we to do? You may be thinking, “Oh, I heard about this a long time ago.” Fellow believers, we are truly facing it NOW. You can validate this fact yourself by going to http://www.aclj.org/

According to Jay Sekulow on 2/6/09, this Bill, the Freedom Broadcast Act of 2009 and 'Fairness Doctrine' will most likely be on the Congress Floor in approximately 10 days.

In short, this Bill, if passed will dictate – “We'll tell you what you can and cannot say".

So much for our constitutional right for Free Speech!

From ACLJ.org, Jay Sekulow, 2/5/09
"It’s been a very interesting week in Washington as the drumbeat continues to grow about how to regulate talk radio. There are troubling signs pointing to a Congressional push to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine, a dangerous measure that would muzzle talk radio - including Christian talk radio and shows like Jay Sekulow Live!

Just days ago, President Obama lashed out at conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh telling Republican lawmakers that “they can’t just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done.” And, then came an online petition from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee targeting Limbaugh.” (I read it with my own eyes).

From US Congressman Mike Pence Website:
US Congressman Pence gave the following speech at a press conference on 6/11/08 calling on Democrats to sign a discharge petition that would bring H.R. 2905, the Broadcaster Freedom Act, to the floor of the U.S. House. The Broadcaster Freedom Act would ensure that no future president could regulate the airwaves of America without an act of Congress.

“But Speaker Pelosi and the Democrats in Congress have refused to schedule the Broadcaster Freedom Act for a vote." (That was back in June when President Bush was still in office).

UPDATE: It's probably coming within 10 days or so according to Jak Sekulow today (2/6/09)

How’s this for timing?

Yesterday (2/5/09)

Senator Debbie Stabenow of Michigan said,
"I think it’s absolutely time to pass a standard. Now, whether it’s called the Fairness Standard, whether it’s called something else — I absolutely think it’s time to be bringing accountability to the airwaves. I mean, our new president has talked rightly about accountability and transparency. You know, that we all have to step up and be responsible. And, I think in this case, there needs to be some accountability and standards put in place.

BILL PRESS: Can we count on you to push for some hearings in the United States Senate this year, to bring these owners in and hold them accountable?

SENATOR DEBBIE STABENOW (D-MI): I have already had some discussions with colleagues and, you know, I feel like that’s gonna happen. I want to thank the Co-Chairs of this breakfast, Representatives Heath Shuler and Vernon Ehlers. I’d also like to thank Tony Blair for coming today, as well as our Vice President, Joe Biden, members of my Cabinet, members of Congress, clergy, friends, and dignitaries from across the world.Michelle and I are honored to join you in prayer this morning. I know this breakfast has a long history in Washington, and faith has always been a guiding force in our family’s life, so we feel very much at home and look forward to keeping this tradition alive during our time here.

It’s a tradition that I’m told actually began many years ago in the city of Seattle. It was the height of the Great Depression, and most people found themselves out of work. Many fell into poverty. Some lost everything. The leaders of the community did all that they could for those who were suffering in their midst. And then they decided to do something more: they prayed. It didn’t matter what party or religious affiliation to which they belonged. They simply gathered one morning as brothers and sisters to share a meal and talk with God.These breakfasts soon sprouted up throughout Seattle, and quickly spread to cities and towns across America, eventually making their way to Washington. A short time after President Eisenhower asked a group of Senators if he could join their prayer breakfast, it became a national event. And today, as I see presidents and dignitaries here from every corner of the globe, it strikes me that this is one of the rare occasions that still brings much of the world together in a moment of peace and goodwill.

I raise this history because far too often, we have seen faith wielded as a tool to divide us from one another – as an excuse for prejudice and intolerance. Wars have been waged. Innocents have been slaughtered. For centuries, entire religions have been persecuted, all in the name of perceived righteousness.

There is no doubt that the very nature of faith means that some of our beliefs will never be the same. We read from different texts. We follow different edicts. We subscribe to different accounts of how we came to be here and where we’re going next – and some subscribe to no faith at all.

But no matter what we choose to believe, let us remember that there is no religion whose central tenet is hate. There is no God who condones taking the life of an innocent human being. This much we know.We know too that whatever our differences, there is one law that binds all great religions together. Jesus told us to "love thy neighbor as thyself." The Torah commands, "That which is hateful to you, do not do to your fellow." In Islam, there is a hadith that reads "None of you truly believes until he wishes for his brother what he wishes for himself." And the same is true for Buddhists and Hindus; for followers of Confucius and for humanists. It is, of course, the Golden Rule – the call to love one another; to understand one another; to treat with dignity and respect those with whom we share a brief moment on this Earth.

It is an ancient rule; a simple rule; but also one of the most challenging. For it asks each of us to take some measure of responsibility for the well-being of people we may not know or worship with or agree with on every issue. Sometimes, it asks us to reconcile with bitter enemies or resolve ancient hatreds. And that requires a living, breathing, active faith. It requires us not only to believe, but to do – to give something of ourselves for the benefit of others and the betterment of our world.

In this way, the particular faith that motivates each of us can promote a greater good for all of us. Instead of driving us apart, our varied beliefs can bring us together to feed the hungry and comfort the afflicted; to make peace where there is strife and rebuild what has broken; to lift up those who have fallen on hard times. This is not only our call as people of faith, but our duty as citizens of America, and it will be the purpose of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships that I’m announcing later today. The goal of this office will not be to favor one religious group over another – or even religious groups over secular groups. It will simply be to work on behalf of those organizations that want to work on behalf of our communities, and to do so without blurring the line that our founders wisely drew between church and state. This work is important, because whether it’s a secular group advising families facing foreclosure or faith-based groups providing job-training to those who need work, few are closer to what’s happening on our streets and in our neighborhoods than these organizations. People trust them. Communities rely on them. And we will help them.

We will also reach out to leaders and scholars around the world to foster a more productive and peaceful dialogue on faith. I don’t expect divisions to disappear overnight, nor do I believe that long-held views and conflicts will suddenly vanish. But I do believe that if we can talk to one another openly and honestly, then perhaps old rifts will start to mend and new partnerships will begin to emerge. In a world that grows smaller by the day, perhaps we can begin to crowd out the destructive forces of zealotry and make room for the healing power of understanding.

This is my hope. This is my prayer.

I believe this good is possible because my faith teaches me that all is possible, but I also believe because of what I have seen and what I have lived.I was not raised in a particularly religious household. I had a father who was born a Muslim but became an atheist, grandparents who were non-practicing Methodists and Baptists, and a mother who was skeptical of organized religion, even as she was the kindest, most spiritual person I’ve ever known. She was the one who taught me as a child to love, and to understand, and to do unto others as I would want done.I didn’t become a Christian until many years later, when I moved to the South Side of Chicago after college. It happened not because of indoctrination or a sudden revelation, but because I spent month after month working with church folks who simply wanted to help neighbors who were down on their luck – no matter what they looked like, or where they came from, or who they prayed to. It was on those streets, in those neighborhoods, that I first heard God’s spirit beckon me. It was there that I felt called to a higher purpose – His purpose.

In different ways and different forms, it is that spirit and sense of purpose that drew friends and neighbors to that first prayer breakfast in Seattle all those years ago, during another trying time for our nation. It is what led friends and neighbors from so many faiths and nations here today. We come to break bread and give thanks and seek guidance, but also to rededicate ourselves to the mission of love and service that lies at the heart of all humanity. As St. Augustine once said, "Pray as though everything depended on God. Work as though everything depended on you."
So let us pray together on this February morning, but let us also work together in all the days and months ahead. For it is only through common struggle and common effort, as brothers and sisters, that we fulfill our highest purpose as beloved children of God. I ask you to join me in that effort, and I also ask that you pray for me, for my family, and for the continued perfection of our union. Thank you.

Video Source 1 – Click HERE
Video Source 2 – Click HERE

Kudos to Palin...

December 11, 2008

I recently applauded Gov. We were saddened that both you and Senator McCain were unsuccessful in receiving your office, however, all things work for good for those who are the called, and we know as Christian believers that God's plans are already set. An honorable endeavor however.

My husband heard a recent report that you had declined to appear on Oprah's show and that someone reported that 'you needed Oprah' if you ever write a book. (I'm sorry, I did not hear the report myself so I'm going on my husband's memory.) In any case, kudos to you for declining.

As a born again believer I'm sure you've heard about the damage Oprah has been doing for some time now, endorsing 'pseudo-spiritualism', new age philosophies and false doctrine. Her multi-million followers have been enraptured by "The Secret" and more recently her satellite radio & webcast programs tout the biblically blasphemous 'teachings' of Eckhart Tolle, as well as “A Course in Miracles” with Marianne Williamson.

I’ve done some extensive research on Oprah over the years, and our pastor has addressed a few issues relative to her and she has surpassed many modern false ‘teachers’ on “the spirit life” simply by means of endorsement. In these dark days we need to find courage and strength by following the Word of God and staying strong in His Spirit… He warned us that false teachers would come in the last days and Oprah is surely, sadly one of them. Many, many years ago I used to watch her show. She had helpful safety, personal security tips, etc. But because of her bent towards embracing new age concepts I stopped. She once was a bible-believing Christian, but has departed greatly from the Word and has now, through her endorsements of these false teachers led millions down the wrong path.

In a recent artlcle in Decision Magazine by Billy Graham, he says, “For years people have been seeking to organize human life without God. They have tried to thrust Him out of the universe.” More distinctly, Oprah has created a pseudo-god that doesn’t require a risen Lord, because according to her, We are Christ. In fact, she defined it by endorsing Eric Butterworth’s book Discovering the Power Within You and reiterating his view that, and I quote, “Jesus did not come to teach how divine He was, but came to teach us that there is divinity within us.” (There are many resourceful and helpful articles on lighthousetrailsresearch.com, just type Oprah in the search bar.)

We encourage you strongly and pray that you not never succumb to the pressures of the media, or even your closest advisors to appear on her show. You have bravely, through much prayer withstood the onslaught of the media and graciously and honestly answered every question with poise and unprecedented godly confidence. You have such strong character and we counted it an honor to cast a vote for you. Stay strong in the Lord and be encouraged! Would love your personal comments on this and a signed picture if possible…

Blessings and prayers from Illinois
************************************************

Losing What's Precious To Drunk Drivers

I am the parent of a college age student. Ever since we lost my brother suddenly a few years ago we vowed to never leave each other without saying, "I love you." Whether it be during a phone conversation or departing the house.

Of course we always remind him, "Drive Safe", "No speeding." No parent could be prepared to lose a child. We take all the necessary precautions. Since our one and only son was an infant we've guided, warned, doled out advice, and most importantly prayed that he'd always make wise choices. It's what any good parent would do.

The world is a dangerous place. When I received the following poem this morning it reminded me that despite all we can do, sometimes it's the other guy that can rip what is precious to us, right out of our arms... Thus the reason for sharing it here.

In my line of work we are constantly on the road doing events. Very often we're driving late at night, and nearly every time have encountered drunk drivers on the road. Speeding, weaving, driving irratically.

Recently a friend and member of my family fell victim of a drunk driver. Thankfully their parked cars took the brunt of this young women's drunken irresponsibility and not them. Had she not hit their unoccupied cars, God only knows who she may have struck and killed on the road.

Although originally reported that the poem originated from MADD, while the 'petition' was started with good intentions, with some research they confirmed it was not distributed nor endorsed by MADD. However, if this affects you as it did me perhaps there's something you can do. Get involved--- but we have to start by living it ourselves... If it could save just ONE life, ONE parent from the grief of losing a child it's well worth it. I'll be putting this poem on bookmarks and circulating it. Starting with my son and his friends.

By taking action, we ARE doing something... Here's the poem.

Went To A Party Mom

I went to a party

And remembered what you said

You told me not to drink, Mom

So I had a Sprite instead.

I felt proud of myself

The way you said I would

That I didn't drink and drive

Though some friends said I should

I made a healthy choice

And your advice to me was right

The party finally ended

And the kids drove out of sight

I got into my car

Sure to get home in one piece

I never knew what was coming, Mom

Something I expected least

Now I'm lying on the pavement

And I hear the policeman say

The kid that caused this wreck was drunk, Mom

His voice seems far away

My own blood's all around me

As I try hard not to cry

I can hear the paramedic say

This girl is going to die

I'm sure the guy had no idea

While he was flying high

Because he chose to drink and drive

Now I would have to die

So why do people do it, Mom?

Knowing it ruins lives?

And now the pain is cutting me

Like a hundred stabbing knives

Tell sister not to be afraid, Mom

Tell Daddy to be brave

And when I go to heaven

Put ' Mommy's Girl' on my grave

Someone should have taught him

That it's wrong to drink and drive

Maybe if his parents had

I'd still be alive

My breath is getting shorter, Mom

I'm getting really scared

These are my final moments

And I'm so unprepared

I wish that you could hold me Mom

As I lie here and die

I wish that I could say, 'I love you, Mom!'

So I love you and good-bye...

MADD: Summary of 2008 drunk driving statistics Do they love to play with toys as much as my dog? Then you need to read this...

I received a report about a product on the market that should or is in the process of being recalled. This story was validated by several sources, and its distributor has opted now to pull if from the shelves. Apparently this toy only has one air outlet, and if a dog gets his tongue caught the suction will not allow it to be released.

I have not seen this story on my local news, so how do we get the word out? The internet...
One particular individual had to have his dogs' tongue amputated, while reportedly another pet passed away as a result of its injuries. I am not one to get myself entangled in politics, but something HAS to be done!

Our big city of Chicago has been making headlines lately for the following reasons:

We are blessed to have the highest sales tax in the nation. (half-billion dollar tax increase in Feb. 2008) (10.25%)

We've repetitively have had the highest gas prices in the nation. (USA average: $3.753, Cook County Average: (Highest in Cook County today: $4.52) Source: Gasbuddy.com

In times of near bankrupcy, the Cook County Board has allowed Board President Todd Stroger to give everyone a 13% pay raise across the board, when a recent local news investigation revealed that the majority of those he hired are already way overpaid for their positions... Don't get me wrong, some employees deserve a raise...

Now, only 79 days after the last tax hike Todd Stroger once again wrangled his buddies to raise taxes AGAIN

Oh, and we're bidding to become the home of the 2016 Olympics.

I've slowly seen my taxes go higher, and recently, my property values go lower. In the midst of the economic crises our Cook County Board President has opted to not only consistently raise property and sales tax, but smirks while he does it. As if to say, "I'm doin' it, and there's nothing you can do about it..."

In a recent blog entry to Tony Peraica, who has historically appeared to be on the side of integrity, justice, and fighting corruption, I wrote:

***************************

"I simply cannot believe the rampant corruption in Cook County. I just received my tax bill and my mortgage payment, in dire economic times has just sky-rocketed $179 more per month. With out-of-control people like Stroger how are we supposed to survive, much less keep a roof over our head and food in our mouthes?... Something HAS to be done! I'm writing the Olympic committee today and telling them that Chicago is not a sound city to hold the Olympic games... If we can't manage our own city government, how can we handle such an undertaking... I don't care if I have to comb every home in Cook County, I'm getting signatures.. How much more can we take!!?"

***************************

If you agree with my sentiments, won't you join me in doing something about it?

(More to come on this issue)
